This one-of-a-kind handmade Shakuhachi was crafted in the KODOAN workshop from carefully selected natural bamboo and finished with a traditional black lacquered bore.

Unlike many modern concert shakuhachi that rely on heavily machined or fully synthetic bore profiles, this instrument preserves the natural character of the bamboo while using a refined lacquered interior to enhance stability, response, and tonal clarity.

The result is an instrument that feels alive.

Why a Lacquered Bore?

The inside of this shakuhachi has been carefully refined and finished with traditional black lacquer.

Many professional shakuhachi use lacquer to stabilize the bore and improve consistency, but I intentionally preserve the natural personality of the bamboo rather than creating a perfectly machined interior.

For me, the goal is not perfection.

The goal is connection.

Connection between player, breath, and bamboo.

This flute retains the warmth and individuality of natural bamboo while offering excellent response and a beautifully balanced tone.
